Hello, Everyone!

This week, I began my plans for the second run of Haiku Girl Summer. Read on to find out more about publication and submission dates, a survey for potential guest editors, and other relevant details.

The publication will once again publish daily from June 1st-August 31st. This year, submissions will open on May 15th and close on August 30th. You will still be able to submit three times during the submission period, but anything sent in May will count toward the June submission queue. As this is a Touchstone-nominating publication, I will insist once again on unpublished work only.

I would love to have guest editors this year! I am still sorting out the details of that, and I am interested in hearing from prospective editors regarding scheduling. I want to pick something that works best for as many people as possible. Please note that you are not committing to editing when you fill out the survey. This is simply a chance to let me know which type of editorial schedule would work best for you. Please complete the survey by Wednesday, February 21st. While there has been some (justified) controversy this year regarding Substack’s publishing practices, I am opting to stay with them for now. I’m a fan of Sandwiches of History, and the creator, Barry, has been in a similar predicament about whether to stay or go. I cannot find the post where he writes about a conversation he had with Substack leadership, but based on that, he’s sticking around for for the time being. Because Barry reports some good-faith efforts to improve things, I’m tentatively keeping the publication here. If that changes, I’ll be sure to let you know.

I’m excited to see what the summer brings for haiku!

Cheers,

Allyson
